De-stressing College and Post-Graduate School

Whether you are in college, law school, medical school, or MBA school, you have probably had to deal with constant stress and pressure from school. When deadlines pile up and there is not enough time in the day to finish your work, you probably wish you could just drop everything and be stress free. In today’s world, including the academic world, stress is always a given; what makes a student successful has to do with the way he or she manages stress. If you want some help in dealing with the tension of your classroom, keep reading.

Common sources of stress

* Not enough time
* Too many requirements
* Money issues
* Unhealthy eating and sleeping habits due to work
* Trouble balancing school, career and family life

Dealing with the stress

One of the best ways to deal with classroom stress is to step back and take a breather. One of the things that you need to de-stress yourself from all the work you put in is to rest. Without rest, you will not be able to work effectively and efficiently. If you feel the need to take a break and rest, then the chances are that it is your body and mind telling you that it needs to recuperate. Schedule adequate time for rest and relaxation in between studying and classroom time.

Another tip is to find a sport, hobby, or activity that interests you. Most of the time, when you are studying, you are either sitting down or laying down. By taking up an activity, exercise routine, or sport, you can keep your body in better shape to deal with the mental and physical demands of school. Having other activities also helps take your mind off of the deadlines and assignments that you have for school.

The most draining part about being stressed is the feeling of inadequacy – the feeling of not being able to cope with the tasks at hand. Have faith in yourself that you can accomplish and succeed in anything thrown your way. The reason you were accepted into college, law school, medical school, or MBA school is precisely because the institution you enrolled in believes that you have what it takes to be successful. Take a cue from them and believe in yourself as well.
