Practitioners in the medical field have always been taught to separate themselves emotionally from the patients they deal with and the conditions these individuals have. The practice of medicine has always been about focusing on the actual illness, instead of the person. It has worked for centuries and most experts think there is no reason to change it. However, many studies have been made in the past that verifies what some people have been claiming for decades: our emotional well being is a strong contributor to our physical health. What we now need to do is to highlight those claims and explain them.

I. Introduction

A. Deeper patient interaction as an effective treatment modality.

B. Empathy research is a topic I am seriously interested in.

C. I have read many stories about sick individuals returning back to perfect health. These were people who were declared terminally ill before their recovery.

D. I want to continue my medical studies because it is a field I’m interested in and will pursue as a lifetime career.

II. Highlights of my educational achievements

A. As a student, I was able to establish serious relationships with my classmates, people who I expect to be my colleagues later on in life.

B. My grades have consistently been in the top 10 of my various classes.

C. I was able to complete and even exceed my clinical internship requirements in record time: a testament of the commitment to my craft.

D. I joined several university organizations because of my interest to learn more than what formal classes could provide. I focused on organizations that went on missions to treat the poor in depressed areas of our state.

III. Reasons why I’m applying here as a future physical therapy student

A. Location – This university is located where there is direct access to all the places I need to go to: residence, family, educational resources.

B. Reputation – Admittedly, your institution is one of the main reasons for my decision. I look forward to studying here.
